Markets have been the heart, soul and life-blood of all real cities ever since cities exist. Terms such as "urban market" or "farmer's market" indicate that this once indispensible institution is experiencing a comeback after being substituted by the all-in-one-bore-me-to-death-mall in many metropolises around the world. But this is not the case for Barcelona. The Catalan are as gourmet as you can get and will elevate you to taste heaven. Without the impressive network of "mercats" throughout Barcelona, this would of course never be possible. Enjoy.
